Students wishing to be placed in Advanced Band or Intermediate Band must submit an audition video.

Important Notes

1. Band and Jazz Band auditions must be submitted separately

2. Joint auditions are not permitted

3. Each student must perform their own audition

 

Audition Video Requirements

 

ALL WINDS PLAYERS   

Introduction

Introduction videos should include:

1. Your name

2. Your current school

3. How long you have been playing music

4. How long you have played your current instrument

 

Scales

Perform as many full-octave scales as possible.

• Use any scale rhythm pattern recommended by your band director

• Maintain a steady tempo

• Focus on accuracy and tone quality

 

  Two Musical Examples

Perform two excerpts from music you have played recently.

 

Examples should demonstrate:

Articulation variety, Dynamic contrast, Tempo control, Tone quality and pitch accuracy

 

Music may come from:

Music Performance Assessment (MPA), Solo & Ensemble, Recent Concert, Summer Camp

 

Optional for musical examples:
If you performed a Solo at Solo & Ensemble and have a recording, you may submit that video instead of the two musical examples.

ALL PERCUSSION PLAYERS

Introduction

Introduction video should include:

1. Your name

2. Your current school

3. How long you have been playing music

4. List the instruments you've played

 

 

Scales

Optional (but encouraged) play scales on the keyboard instrument of your choice. 

• Play as many MAJOR scales as you can AND a one octave CHROMATIC scale from F to F.

 

 

 

Musical Examples

• Play musical examples from prior performances demonstrating ability on up to 4 different instruments.  Examples could include Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Timpani, Tambourine, Triangle, etc. 

 

OPTIONAL for musical examples 

If student played a solo for Solo and Ensemble and a video recording is available, they can submit this video in exchange.

Recording Your Video

Upload your audition video to YouTube and set it to Unlisted.

Students must be clearly visible in the video.

1. Copy your video link(s) and put in body of an email

2. Email auditions to: dawson4c@manateeschools.net

3. Subject line format: AUDITION – [Student Name]

All audition videos must be submitted by Friday, May 1.
